About LEFT - Festival Info...

WHO WE ARE:
The Lost Episode Festival Toronto (LEFT) is an artist-run film festival in Toronto, Canada organzied by Founder Johnny Larocque. We are pleased to offer screenings of independent films produced both locally and internationally by many talented and creative artists. Our festival is hosted by the historic Bloor Hot Docs Cinema. Recently renovated, the Bloor has been a central figure in Toronto film culture for over 100 years. Official website:

LEFT is a not-for-profit cultural organization, founded by veterans of the arts and film industry as Canada's First Fan Film Festival. Our staff have contributed to numerous award winning films that have screened at festivals globally.

LEFT acknowledges film as the premier artistic medium of our era and seeks to expand both the ability of artists to create with film, and the public's awareness and appreciation of this diverse and uniquely modern art form.

The goals of LEFT are:
  • Create new opportunities and challenges for filmmakers.
  • Provide the film community with support and growth potential.
  • Foster a presence for independent film makers within the greater arts community.
  • Educate and increase the public's understanding and appreciation of the arts by providing screenings of independent film.

We want to show YOUR work to the world, reward you with CASH & PRIZES, and encourage YOU to make more!

HOW WE DIFFER FROM OTHER FESTIVALS:
What sets LEFT apart from other film festivals is our content. Our focus is on fan films, independent features and short films, some of which are meant to be “lost episode” satires of popular and cult television shows (ex. Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, Magnum PI, etc). LEFT is targeted at anyone who has ever fallen in love with a television show, and wished it was still around - now it can be! Fans and filmmakers alike can create their own "lost episodes", and we will showcase them. This is a festival by and for fans of great cult classics of television and genre cinema.

WHAT WE WILL BE SCREENING:
Our final schedule is still to be determined, but we will be showing the following types of content:
  • Feature Length Genre Films & Shorts
  • Full Episodes and Short Clips satirizing Cult TV Shows, and original fan created shows
  • "Sweded" content, including intros for Cult TV Shows
  • Live action versions of cartoons / Cartoon versions of live action
  • Commercials for products and shows that don't exist
  • Fake trailers for films
All in the spirit of the festival having a great television feel.

GENRES:
The 2014 theme is HORROR, but we're also accepting any submission that has a Horror element in it. Such as Horror/Comedy, Horror/Sci-Fi, Horror/Beach-Blanket-Bingo, you name it!
